lecture-1 introduction to engineering mechanics

Engineering mechanics is composed of two English word. these are 
1. Engineering

2. Mechanics.

What is engineering?

It is a process in which we design a product or service using scientific principle to fulfil needs of humankinds.

What is mechanics?

it is the branch of science which describe and predicts the condition of rest or motion of bodies under the action of forces. 

Engineering mechanics: -

 It is the branch of branch of of engineering that applies the principle of mechanics to design product and service.

 

Classifications of engineering mechanics

It is classified based on two parameters. these are as follows.

1. State of motion

2. State of object

(I)Engineering mechanics classified based on State of motion,

 it is classified into two type i.e.

1. Static 

2.dyanamics 

Static- 

It is the branch of mechanics which deals with the study of object at rest.

Dynamics 

It is the branch of mechanics which deals with the study of object at motion.

Dynamics further classified into two type. These are as follows-:

1. Kinetics 

2. Kinematics

Kinetics-

It is the branch of mechanics concerned with the motion of object with considering the forces which cause the motion.

Kinematics

It is the branch of mechanics concerned with the motion of object without considering the forces which cause the motion.

(Ii) Engineering mechanics classified based on State of object-:

It is classified into two type based on State of object. These are as follows-:

1.resistant body 

2. Rigid body 

Resistant body -: 

A body is said to be resistant body if it is deformed under action of forces.

Deform means change in shape and size of a body under action of forces.

Rigid body -:

A body is said to be resistant body if it doesn't deform under action of forces.

There is no change in shape and size.
